Sorry, no poetic introduction just yet...
In order to connect to UOnet with your Linux system over a modem, you will need some special software. One type of software is called DIP (Dialup IP?). To use DIP, you'll need to have it installed on your system, which is probably already the case if you have installed the networking package(s) of whatever distribution you have installed on your machine.
DIP uses a script to talk to the modem on the other end and establish the connection. I've modified a script to work well for dialing in at the U of O. To view the script, follow this link, or to save it directly to your computer, (if you're using Netscape) hold down the SHIFT key and click here.
You will need to edit the script using your favorite editor and put your modem account (aka netid) and password in the proper places.
